Children at Buckstones Primary School in Shaw got a chance to visit Santa’s grotto on Tuesday (December 15) thanks to Home Delivery Network (HDN) – the UK’s largest dedicated home delivery and collection company.
The grotto had been specially created with materials and decorations donated by staff at HDN’s national sort centre on Linney Lane in Shaw.
The children – aged between four and five – also received presents from Santa.
Many of HDN’s customers and Suppliers donated raffle prizes and gifts for the event including Shop Direct Group, Argos, The Book People, Direct Golf, Express Gifts, Eddie Stobart and many others.
On Wednesday (December 23), staff at the sort centre have been invited to bring their own children to see Santa and 120 children are expected to visit the grotto.
Christmas is the busiest time of year for HDN, which last year delivered over 35 million parcels in the peak period, many of them Christmas presents for both children and grown-ups.
Angela Carus, General Manager North - Transport and Sort, at Home Delivery Network, said: “The children were very excited when they visited the sort centre and saw all of the conveyor belts transporting Christmas parcels of all shapes and sizes to vehicles bound for different destinations across the UK.
“We explained that Santa is especially busy this year and that we are helping him by delivering all the presents he doesn’t have room for in his sleigh. With so many people now buying their Christmas presents online, both Santa and Home Delivery Network are pulling out all the stops so girls and boys receive their presents in time for Christmas.”
Home Delivery Network distributes more than 100 million parcels per year to consumers across the UK from retailers including River Island, Tesco.com and Argos.
